Travelling Around the World of Internet News Channels
I haven’t been travelling much down the last few months, a couple of daytrips does not a trip make… So since I’m here in London and kicking back in the sunshine, I thought I do a series of posts that run through of the various English language rolling news TV networks that are around.
Years ago, I used to consider it a luxury if I was in a hotel that had BBC World as it was nice to get a more global view of the world than the domestic rolling news network and an added bonus for me was CNN. These days it hotels seem to have Fox News and not much else, which doesn’t really satisfy the need to find out what is going on in this world of ours. So with the plethora of Wi-Fi available these days when I’m travelling, I’ve gone further afield in my search for information. These days, most of the stations have a phone or tablet app, so when you’re travelling and can find a Wi-Fi hotspot, you can sit down and amuse yourself by catching up with your favourite news outlet.
So, I’m going to spend a bit of time dipping into each and review them for your reading pleasure. On the whole, I find the English language versions are a propaganda arm of the government but if you understand the context they operate in, they are still worth watching, even when you’re not travelling.
I’ve found a plethora of sites to add to my current favourites list and over the next few weeks I’ll write some reviews and give you links if you want to download the apps or watch them in your browser. If you want to watch along with me and give an opinion as I publish each piece, the first one up next week will be Russia Today (RT).
