Booking your travel using Bitcoins
You may be aware that the virtual currency Bitcoins is becoming more popular as more people use them. There’s at least one pub here in London that takes them (the Pembury Tavern) and The Old Shoreditch Station cafe that also takes them. There’s even currently an effort to raise funds to install a bitcoin atm in London. For a list of places worldwide that take them, have a look here. Although, that list isn’t comprehensive and the last time it was updated was in May of this year but it will give you an idea of the breadth of stores accepting Bitcoins for payment. There’s also another website here but sadly it too isn’t up to date.
The latest business to pop up on the bitcoin radar is a flight booking website called BtcTrip. It’s still in Beta and at the moment it gives you prices only in USD rather than Bitcoins but it shows a lot of promise. The one thing it does offer is a pricematching service, so even if you can’t get a good quote from them, if you send them the details of the best quote you’ve had from another site they’ll match it.
If you’re already comfortable with digital currencies then you’ll welcome the broader acceptance of Bitcoins for purchases. If you’re new to this digital currency lark then do some reading. It’s still a long way off being able to travel anywhere knowing you can use your Bitcoins wherever you go but it’s slowly becoming more widespread.
Cool huh?
