Cayova – A new social media site

There’s a new social media site in town and it’s called Cayova. It appears to be based on the Google+ design but has one important difference, it gives you the ability to manage your privacy when visiting websites.  It’s UK based and allows you to block the cookies that track your browsing history or you can allow them access and Cayova will charge the companies a fee, part of which it will pass onto you.  So you can keep your web surfing private or make money from it.

Now that paragraph above might sound like a marketing blurb and in a way it is.  Particularly after the revelations down the last month or so on the extent of the data collection done by business and various governments, there are a lot of people who want to reduce their expose to the tracking.  According to Edward Snowden, both Google and Facebook have effectively given the US government their own logins to their databases so they can copy what they like.  So if you are planning on moving away from G+ or Facebook then consider Cayova.

You can read their privacy policy here, they claim that your data is yours until you choose to allow others to view it.

So it might not be a bad alternative to the others.  If you do sign up, come say hello.  You’ll find me here.
