1000 Dead and Nothing Said – End the Slaughter of Gaza

National Day of Protest

PSC, along with the British Muslim Initiative and Stop the War will be holding a national day of protest against the continuing slaughter in Gaza on Saturday 17^th January.

Demonstrations are taking place across Britain.

In London there will be a rally in Trafalgar Square at 2pm, followed by a march of women and children to Downing Street.

In Birmingham, the demonstration assembles at 12noon at Victoria Street.

These demonstrations are crucial to maintaining the momentum we have created with the vast majority of the British public over the last three weeks. Localising this week’s action means that PSC members and supporters can work within the communities they know best, making sure the pressure is kept on the British and Israeli Governments to bring about a lasting and just peace for the people of Gaza and Palestine.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign is calling on all its members and supporters to help out with our activities and in our office – we are campaigning around the clock on the massacre in the Gaza and, due to our limited resources, we are relying on the invaluable work of volunteers, members and supporters who want to do all they can to support the people of Palestine in this hour of need. If you can spare time during the week, evenings and/or at weekends, or can help on our forthcoming activities including protests and demonstrations, please email info@palestinecampaign.org Volunteers and stewards play an invaluable role in ensuring the effective and smooth running of our various initiatives, from stewarding and helping to organize demonstrations, leafleting to get the message out about the massacre in the Gaza, to helping maintain our office.

ISRAEL ADMITS BREAKING THE CEASEFIRE – OVER 1,000 PALESTINIANS KILLED

For 18 days the Israeli Government has justified to the world that their decision to unleash a massive military campaign against the people of Gaza was as a direct result of Hamas’ breach of the ceasefire brokered by the Egyptian Government.

Hamas has always stated that between June 2008 and November 2008 they did not fire a single rocket into Israel.

In a recent interview given to Channel 4 News, the Israeli Government’s official spokesman Mark Regev finally admitted that Hamas did not break the ceasefire.

So by their own admission the Israeli Government broke the terms of the ceasefire first. They have wantonly destroyed the infrastructure of Gaza – that is a breach of international law and a war crime. War Crimes – Pressure Mounts on Israel

The momentum for war crime prosecutions and crimes against humanity is growing internationally. It seems that when the General Assembly of the UN meets to discuss the ongoing human tragedy in Gaza there will be moves to ask the International Court to take a preliminary look to see if international law has been broken.

According to Richard Falk, the UN’s special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories and professor emeritus of international law at Princeton University, “There is a well-grounded view that both the initial attacks on Gaza and the tactics being used by Israel are serious violations of the UN charter, the Geneva Conventions, international law and international humanitarian law,”

“There is a consensus among independent legal experts that Israel is an occupying power and is therefore bound by the duties set out in the Fourth Geneva Convention,” Falk added. “The arguments that Israel’s blockade is a form of prohibited collective punishment, and that it is in breach of its duty to ensure the population has sufficient food and healthcare as the occupying power, are very strong.”
