Is Google+ their killer app that removes our final vestiges of privacy?

The basic fact of all life, and with the web in particular, is that if you don’t pay for a service then you are part of the service that is provided to those who do. Advertising is the mainstay of most free or cheap to use services.  Television, radio, newspapers and websites all rely on advertisers for their profit.  It is always a juggling act for these organisations, the need to keep their consumers engaged with the product against the need to satisfy their advertisers. Usually it means revenue must be protected and so users lose out. Facebook makes its money from taking the data of its users and making it available in various forms and channels to those who wish to advertise, now Google are making a move.

As if Google didn’t capture enough information through its mining of emails, your search history and the persistent cookies, now it’s going further by releasing Google+.  All your interactions and posts that would once be invisible to them can be safely captured and stored with all the other data they have.

Do no evil? Not believing it these days.
