Using a metro card in Shanghai

The Shanghai metro is lovely and most trains have an indicator to tell you which station you’re at and what the next one is – if only London had that!

You can get the Shanghai equivalent of an oyster card, which is very convenient.  The problem is there’s only a couple of places in Shanghai you can go to return it and get your money back but you can top it up at any station and use it on buses too.

Also, it will allow you to go into debit for one trip if your card doesn’t have enough funds on it – you then need to go top it up if you want to keep using it.
