Using Taxis in China

Always get the card from your hotel with the hotel name and the street map on the back.  The name (even if in Chinese) won’t be enough usually.

Before you leave for the airport, make sure you’ve got a printout of the hotel you want to go to with the name in Chinese and a map.  Even if you’ve booked it through an agency or are on a tour they should give you the name of the first hotel so look it up on the web and print the map that most chinese hotels have on their website.  Trust me, it will save you incredible angst.

If you are going anywhere by taxi then try to have the name and a map – it might mean a bit of work before you leave for your trip but again it will be worth it.
